What is PROMISE study?
PROMISE study stands for POEMS Registry for Optimizing Management, Improving Support, and Enhancing care. We aim to optimize the treatment of POEMS syndrome by accumulating and utilizing data on POEMS patients.
What is POEMS syndrome?
Poly neuropathy, Organomegaly, Endocrinopathy, M-protein, Skin change (POEMS) syndrome is a rare plasma cell dyscrasia. There are fewer than 400 patients in Japan.
What is the problem for POEMS patients?
The life and functional prognosis is poor, if appropriate treatment is not received.
Myeloma therapy has been applied to treat POEMS syndrome. Although, the effectiveness of bortezomib, lenalidomide, and more recently antibody drugs, against POEMS syndrome has been suggested, In Japan, the only drug approved for this syndrome is thalidomide. As a result, disparities exist between medical institutions in the treatment of POEMS syndrome.
